LDEO Earth Science Colloquium presents:
Pleasures and Perils of Writing on the History of Science
with Simon Winchester, New York Times best-selling author of such earth-science-themed non-fiction titles as The Map That Changed The World, A Crack in the Edge of the World, Atlantic, and Krakatoa. His most recent title is The Breath of the Gods, about wind and its effect on how humans experience and interact with the world. He is also the author of the acclaimed The Professor and the Madman, on the development of the Oxford English Dictionary. In 2006, he was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire for his services to journalism and literature.

Colloquia are attended by the full range of scientific and technical staff at LDEO. Colloquium attendance is required of all pre-orals DEES graduate students.
