The P20 CHART (Charting Solutions for Health Impacts of Extreme Weather) Center and the Center for Achieving Resilience in Climate and Health (C-ARCH) will host its seminar on November 5, 2026. Dr. Usama Bilal, Associate Professor of Epidemiology & Biostatistics and Co-Director of the Urban Health Collaborative and the Research Center on Extreme Weather and Urban Health (CCUH) at Drexel's Dornsife School of Public Health, will be presenting on "Hotter, or more vulnerable? Neighborhood inequities in heat and mortality in cities of the Americas: from robust data infrastructures to policy engagement".
Dr. Bilal's primary research interest is the macrosocial determinants of health, with a focus on describing health inequities in urban environments, especially the unequal effects of climate change and extreme weather. His recent work focuses on Philadelphia and in the 371 cities of the SALURBAL-Climate project. Bilal received the prestigious NIH Director’s Early Independence Award (DP5) in 2018 for his The Health Consequences of Urban Scaling project, and the 2024 Drexel Provost Early Career Outstanding Productivity Award. He earned a PhD in Cardiovascular Epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, an MPH from the Universidad de Alcala in Spain, and MD from the Universidad de Oviedo in Spain.
