Teacher & Educator Workshops

In preparation for the 2024 Day in the Life sampling event October 10th, 2024 we are holding two field focused workshops so our teachers and educators can prepare and refresh and a Master's Workshop on Marine Debris Inventorying. Workshops are free but please keep in mind that workshop space is limited so be sure to sign up in advance and let us know if your plans change and you will not be attending so that we can offer your spot to someone else. 

2024 IN-PERSON HUDSON RIVER ESTUARY FIELD TRAININGS: Join us for one of our in person sessions to learn and review the various parameters we measure, data collection techniques, and ideas on how to make your day out in the field with students go smoothy. These workshops are an opportunity to ask questions of the ‘experts’, seasoned teacher particpants and each other! 

  • August 21st2024 Wednesday, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm, at the Norrie Point Environmental Center , 256 Norrie Point Way, Staatsburg NY, 12580
  • September 28th, 2024 Saturday, 10:00 am - 3:30 pm, Center for the Urban River at Beczak, 35 Alexander St, Yonkers, NY 10701. Please note that CTLE credits will be available to attendees of this workshop through our partnership with CURB. There will be a short virtual assessment piece that will be part of these credits that will occur separately after the workshop.

2024 MASTER'S WORKSHOP:

August 27th, 2024 Tuesday, 11:00-3:00 p.m. we are offering a special workshop on sampling Microplastics and other Marine Debris. We will meet at Norrie Point Environmental Center in Staatsburg. This is a unique opportunity with limited spaces available.The session will include:

  • an introduction to microplastics, sampling potocol, field sampling, microplastic identification and a review of the student projects that are incorporating this sampling currently on the Hudson
  • an introduction to sampling larger marine debris program, sampling protocol for inclusion into the DITL program, field sampling/sorting/graphing, a review of existing programs on marine debris sampling to connect to a larger body of work.
