Teacher Event Field Resources

We understand that running a field based sampling event with students requires careful pre-planning and identifying the necessary resources. To support our educators we have gathered many resources to support your sampling event. The page contains material to print for the field including step-by-step instructions for the protocols, and a range of ID resources for fish, arthropods, Hudson River plants, and more! Please contact us if you have any questions Rebecca Houser and Margie Turrin

Supports & Supplies for Your Field Day

Student Recording Packets are available as a full packet in pdf format, or as individual editable sheets in word format. UPDATED WITH 2026 SCAN CODE.

To better support our teachers and educators we have developed a Teacher Master Recording Packet. Thist includes a complete description of each protocol, what it means and why it is included in this event, and the equipment and supplies needed. We also included examples of entries to guide your submission.

Beaufort Chart for Measuring Wind: A picture based Beaufort chart to use with students in measuring wind strength.

Step by Step Photo Based Sampling Guides: For many of the sample parameters we have developed step-by-step sampling guides in both English and Spanish.

Crabs shrimp and other common macroinvertebrates you may find in your sampling!

We recommend you print these sheets in color and either laminate them, or place them in a sealed plastic bag or sleeve so that students can use them in the field.

Don't forget to review the resources on the fish page and select what you should print & laminate to include in your field gear for the day!
